Siobhan McGrenra

Co-Owner, Studio Director, Teacher

Siobhan has a contagious enthusiasm that is difficult not to catch! Siobhan credits yoga and her study of Moksha to giving her a great sense of purpose and direction. Siobhan's first experience with yoga was truly life altering. It was on her mat that she amazingly found a home for her "self", allowing her the opportunity to connect to her inner joy. For five years, Siobhan has been practicing yoga. She continues to be inspired by yoga's ability to reveal the loving kindness of every human soul. In Siobhan's classes she embraces acceptance over judgment, and surrendering rather than resisting. She is so grateful for the opportunity to teach and share the amazing gift that yoga has brought to her life.

Lisa Whitford

Co-Owner, Studio Director, Teacher

Lisa loves teaching! She is a dynamic instructor who is passionate about sharing yoga's transformative ability to heal the body. Having experienced the recovery of numerous old injuries, Lisa is eager to share the freedom that comes with a healthy body, mind and spirit. Her own practice quickly allowed her to discover the relationship between her life on and off the mat. Teaching yoga enriches her life journey by gaining new insights from her students daily. She strives to always be a student herself! She is exceedingly grateful for the opportunity to help people find and develop their internal strength, through the practice of yoga.

Colleen O'Brien

Teacher

Originally from Prince Edward Island, having also lived in Halifax NS, South Korea, and Italy, has recently returned to Canada and settled in Calgary AB.

Having been involved in sports all my life, I've always held a great appreciation for physical wellness and the human body. I began practicing yoga to increase flexibility and for injury prevention. Without expectation, the effects for calming the mind, stress relief, body awareness, among other benefits, soon became apparent as a result of a daily practice.

Although my formal education and career had begun with an Undergraduate Degree in Psychology, and a Graduate Diploma in I.T., I was always in search of something more. The way in which Yoga transformed my life, I felt inspired to study Yoga. I train at Kripalu Centre in MA, USA and have completed my 200 hr YTT certification. Currently I'm pursuing my 500 hr YTT certification, having most recently completed module 3 of this prestigious program. It is now my objective to share what I have learned through my experience with others, and continue a life long journey of study and practice of Yoga.

Kate Mak

Teacher

Kate left her life in science behind and has not looked back because yoga is something that makes her genuinely happy. She started practicing yoga out of curiousity and to add to her healthy lifestyle. However, what she found was a beautiful moving meditation that gives an insightful look into yourself and a way of life. She fell in love with the practice, the people and the positive energy that surrounds the practice. In order to broaden her practice and to understand herself better, she dedicates herself to yoga and schedules her social life around it (much to the chagrin of her friends). It is her greatest honour to teach and humbly hopes to pass on the infectious love for yoga.

Millin Nayyar

Teacher

“If you want to learn a thing, read that; if you want to know a thing, write that; if you want to master a thing, teach that.” (Yogi Bhajan)

It is with this thought and the aspiration of learning to look beyond the illusion “maya” that lead Millin to study yoga with the Moksha family in India. She has experienced the profound effect of Mantra, Meditation, and Kirtan as she was blessed with growing up in an enviroment where these practices were a daily way of life. The desire for more growth and understanding lead her to the world of yoga as an asana. Millin believes that yoga is more than the just a physical practice , but also a pathway to an emotional/ spiritual freedom that can be taken off the mat thus determining how one faces life moment to moment. Millin views each opportunity to teach as a way to learn more at the same time.

Brooke Walls

Teacher

Brooke began practising yoga as a way to ease the pain of old injuries acquired through years of playing competitive soccer. She began with the Traditional Hot Bikram sequence once a week, and quickly found herself attending classes much more frequently, and practising the sequence at home as well. Soon her injuries no longer affected her practise, or her quality of life. Brooke has always been fascinated by the concepts of truth and freedom, and as her practise deepened she realized that yoga was the path she needed to follow to truly contemplate and embrace these elements in her life. In 2008 she completed her yoga teacher training with Yogi Vishvketu, and has since participated in a 200-hour training with Jeff Mah. She loves all styles of yoga, and practises anywhere and everywhere she can!

Tracy Mann

Teacher

As a co-founder of Yoga Passage, Tracy's interests have always varied widely. After having graduated from university with three different degrees in Kinesiology, Commerce and the Arts, Tracy as an accomplished musician spent two years traveling and playing music professionally as a percussionist. His past and current yogic interests have taken him on travels through Turkey, Greece, Italy, Britain, U.S., Holland, Mexico, Belize, Central America, the Caribbean, China, Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

A Black belt martial artist for many years, Tracy studied many styles including Judo, Karate and Aikido and taught and competed nationally. 'There is a spirit and energy in the martial arts that I re-discovered in yoga and I feel so blessed to have it again in my life.'

'I have found myself interested in all styles of yoga and that different people will find unique styles that work for them at different time of their lives. For me a deep practice has very little to do with how complex the poses are. It is more of the human spirit, where breath takes one, the connection to stillness and being comfortable in one self again both physically, energetically and spiritually. The length of our muscles is not any measure of our true value as spiritual being. Our value is in our actions to each other and with our surroundings. Besides, are bodies like all things are impermanent. No need to get too attached.'

Shannon McCormick

Teacher

“Breathing in, I calm the body and mind
Breathing out, I smile
Dwelling in the present moment
I know this is the only moment
” ...(Thich Nhat Hanh)

I have always been in search of more and I can prove it with my eclectic resume, having professions from being an esthetician and modeling,  to a Life Insurance agent, Pharmaceutical rep and Interior Decorator.  I continue to strive to find my niche, my purpose and balance in life or I am a clear example of adult ADD.  I have been involved in sports all of my life with Volleyball at the top of the list.  I have been fortunate to have been coached by two top volleyball coaches, Mike Burchuk-former Canadian National Women’s coach and Ken Bentley-current University of Manitoba Women’s Volleyball coach. I came to Moksha yoga in Winnipeg after suffering a painful hamstring pull and the rest is history I fell in love with Moksha right then and there.  Travelling to India- Kerala in 2009- to complete my initial Moksha teacher training, I returned home to Invermere, B.C and recently moved to Calgary in November.  I am extremely happy to be here with these amazing teachers and look forward to the sanga (community) that Moksha Calgary is creating….my search brought me to Moksha, may you also discover its freedom and awakening to a deeper sense of self and acceptance.
Namaste (the light in me recognizes the light in you, and I bow in your presence)

Amy Bidrman

Pre natal & Mom 'n Baby Teacher

Amy has been teaching pre and postnatal yoga in Calgary for three years. It was an opportunity that presented itself when she was looking for a way to combine the fruits of her own yoga practice with what she had been teaching in natural childbirth classes for couples for the last nine years. Amy attended a prenatal training with Janice Clarfield three years ago, and started teaching right away.

As the mother of two active kids, Amy can often be found in a park, at a swimming pool, or on some bike trail. Her husband Jan is an Olympic swim coach, and Amy says their dog Samson is the world's smartest pug.

"...When I had kids I found the first two limbs of yoga without realizing it. The yamas and niyamas were what I felt brewing within me as a pregnant woman and a mother. Non-harming, truthfulness, purity, non-grasping, contentment, learning through self-experience, devotion to the divine in all being, the great love - it is all there, available always. We don't have to have children to feel 'motherly' or 'fatherly' (because of course, we all need a little bit of both), but it sure makes it easier. Children can be the greatest teachers of these qualities.

Now that I have found a more physical expression of yoga, I'm grateful for the 'push' that motherhood gave me into discovering myself. It allowed me to enter into a physical practice that put emotional and spiritual things into perspective. I am grateful also for the opportunity to share that possibility with others."

Heather Ulrichsen
Teacher

Heather fell in love with the grace and joy of yoga 10 years ago and followed her growing inspiration to complete the Moksha Yoga Teacher training with Ted Grand and Jessica Robertson. Her additional training includes modern dance, Chiropractic Therapy, and acupuncture. Heather’s love and fascination of the healing power within the human body helps her teach the physical practice of yoga from a therapeutic perspective, but her passion for love and life help her share and explore the deeper meaning of yoga with those around her. Heather is so honored to share the practice of yoga with you and looks forward to meeting you at the studio! ~
Namaste~

Marilyn Richards

Teacher

My journey with yoga started just over 3 years ago; I knew from the very first class I attended, that I had found a new passion.

Initially, I was drawn to the physical benefits and that feeling of freedom that followed every practice. However, I soon found out that yoga was so much more; I had developed stillness and balance within myself.

With this new passion, I decided to attend the Moksha teacher training in Nevada, in September 2009. This experience has been life changing for me; I now acknowledge the importance of wholeness, inner peace and being present.

I've witnessed my own personal transformation both on and off the mat, and throughout my teaching; I hope to inspire students to make that same discovery for themselves.

Catherine Nelson-Reid

Teacher

Catherine’s Yoga Journey began 7 years ago ...practicing two days a week .  Then a 30 Day Yoga Challenge connected her to something incredible...herself!
Things have never been the same!  Catherine has not slowed down much since those 30 consecutive days of transformation!  Daily practice both on and off the mat for the last 6 years has brought her to her love of teaching and the love of service to others.
Catherine teaches totally from the heart –which she believes is our highest teacher.
Teaching from a place of total compassion and a belief that we all have everything we need inside and everything we have we need.

Catherine believes that as we draw inwards , we begin to hear -we begin to feel-we come to our center ....our core ...our authentic essence.  Each time we come back to our mat -to our breath -to our center the opportunity is there to come home ....to dig a little deeper inward and remember our beauty within ....

Each day we come to the mat we come to be with ourselves –it is the bravest of work ...we stop ...we find our breath and we just are –wherever that is ....in that moment...

Catherine has moved forward into teaching with the inspiration and light of her beloved teachers
Joanne Clarkson , Celeste Needham , Nora Maskey ,Lisa Whitford, Ally Bogard , Jordan and Martin Kirk , John Friend , and Yogi Vishvaketu....all to whom she continuously bows...Nameh
